For P.J. Whelihan's, wings are definitely a thing — football or no football

So ends another season of football — but not necessarily America's love for chicken wings.

P.J. Whelihan’s is more than ready to rise to the challenge.

The pub and restaurant in Haddon Township, after all, did just fry over 10,000 wings for the annual SportsRadio 94WIP's Wing Bowl 25 held Friday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

“Lots of planning, preparation and teamwork goes into (that),” Jim Fris, chief operating officer of P.J.W. Restaurant Group, said. “It is a lot of work, but it is a lot of fun.

“And it sets us up for an even busier weekend.”

The Haddonfield-based P.J.W. Restaurant Group — a collection of four concepts, including P.J. Whelihan’s, with 14 total locations and five in New Jersey (Haddon Township, Cherry Hill, Maple Shade, Medford Lakes and Washington Township); The Pour House in Westmont and two additional locations in Pennsylvania; The ChopHouse in Gibbsboro; and Treno Pizza Bar in Westmont — sold a total of more than 115,000 wings on Sunday alone for Super Bowl LI, and 10 million wings over the last year.

“No matter who you wanted to win, it just wouldn’t have been the Super Bowl without P.J. Whelihan’s,” Fris said.

P.J.W. Restaurant Group earned more than $80 million in revenue last year and is on track to double that by 2020 by adding to its 1,600 employees and opening two more restaurants this year — including one additional location in New Jersey.
