The U.S. Department of Energy last week said it will invest in the solar energy technology development programs of Petra Solar, of South Plainfield ($2.9 million), and Princeton Power Systems, of Princeton ($2.8 million). The two were among five firms the DOE identified nationally for investments totaling $11 million in advanced solar technology, including intelligent system controls.

Petra Solar will work with the University of Central Florida and 15 electric utilities in a project to improve solar technology’s reliability and resilience, said U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-Hoboken). Princeton Power will work with Transistor Device Inc., Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and others in a project to lower manufacturing costs and develop new inverter designs.
