• TransNet Corp., a provider of voice-over-Internet phone service and IT, said last week it won a $700,000 award from a New Jersey school district for the first phase of its district-wide security system project. TransNet, which has headquarters in Branchburg, will lay the foundation for a modern security solution accessible via smartphone.
• Verizon Wireless, in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards, last week unveiled the Droid, its first smartphone to run on Google Inc.’s open-source Android operating system. Verizon’s partnership with Google is seen as a response to Apple Inc.’s popular iPhone, which is not available to Verizon customers. Droid goes on sale Nov. 6.
• Wayne-based ConnectYard Inc., a provider of social and mobile technologies, last week announced the launch of a widget, QuickConnect, which integrates Facebook, Twitter, text and e-mail messages into a single communication thread. Students can post questions on lectures and homework that are delivered to other class members via phone, e-mail or social networking sites.
• Henry Bros. Electronics Inc., a provider of security solutions, announced early last week that it contracted with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority to provide security technology for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, in Arlington, Va. Henry Bros. has offices around the United States and is based in Fair Lawn.
