The candidates for governor are in a virtual dead heat as the race heads into its final two weeks.

In the latest release of the closely watched Quinnipiac University poll, Republican challenger Chris Christie led Gov. Jon S. Corzine by 1 point, 41 percent to 40 percent, with independent Chris Daggett trailing with 14 percent.

Christie picked up the endorsement of the New Jersey Restaurant Association and the New Jersey Taxpayers Association, while Daggett was endorsed by The Star-Ledger. Corzine was endorsed by the nonprofit New Jersey Citizens Action.

Restaurant Association President Deborah Dowdell said Christie’s work as U.S. attorney for New Jersey proves that he can get the job done as governor.
