New York-based sandwich shop Melt Shop has expanded into New Jersey, marking its fifth state and its entrance into CEO and founder Spencer Rubin’s home state.
Melt Shop will host its grand open at Rockaway Mall on Saturday, with plans to open three more New Jersey locations in the next six months.
A store in Jersey City is scheduled to open by month’s end, followed by Edison and East Rutherford.
“We love Rockaway Mall,” said Rubin. “We have a really good relationship with [landlord] Simon Properties — we’re in a number of their malls now, and we’ve found a lot of success in that sort of environment. Rockaway has a very highly trafficked move theater and the mall is super busy, and there’s a lot of different traffic drivers we were attracted to. That’s why we decided to actually go for it.”
Rubin said he’s excited for Melt Shop, which specializes in sandwiches decked out in meats and veggies with melted cheese, to have a presence in his home state.
“New Jersey is a very compelling market for us,” he said. “It has a very diverse client base. There’s a lot of density, which is really great for our type of business. Customers are looking for better offering, which I think we really deliver on. We’re really excited for the next couple months.”
In addition to melted sandwiches, Melt Shop also offers house-made chicken tenders, salads, tater tots and shakes.
Saturday’s grand opening will be held on location at Rockaway Townsquare, 301 Mt. Hope Ave., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
