New Jersey Transit has received more than 5,000 applications in response to its efforts to hire train engineers.

This news announced Tuesday comes after months during which NJ Transit cancelled individual trains without notice due to a shortage of engineers. Customers have been forced to find alternative transportation.

NJ Transit is reviewing the applications and will soon be reaching out to potential trainees to initiate the interview process. Applications will be accepted through Friday.

NJ Transit is also recruiting bus drivers, mechanics, servicepersons, assistant conductors, electricians, machinists and signal maintainers. Open positions are posted at https://www.njtransit.com.

Additionally, NJ Transit has also increased the number of engineer training classes from one or two per year to four per year.
