Poll: Menendez holds 7-point lead over Hugin

A new Quinnipiac University poll released today shows Democrat Bob Menendez holding a narrow 7-point lead over GOP challenger Bob Hugin as he fights to keep his U.S. Senate seat.

The Oct. 17 Quinnipiac Poll, which polled 873 likely voters in New Jersey, showed that voters favored Menendez over Hugin 51 percent to 44 percent. Only 5 percent of likely voters are undecided, the poll found.

On Oct. 3, a Quinnipiac poll showed Menendez leading over Hugin 53 percent to 42 percent.

Women said they favored Menendez over Hugin by 56 percent to 38 percent. Men are more divided, opting for Menendez in a 51 percent to 46 percent split, the poll found.

Non-white voters back Menendez 63 percent to 28 percent. Among white voters, the poll shows Hugin leading over Menendez 52 percent to 46 percent.
