Scott Partridge, former vice president of global strategy at Monsanto, has been named U.S. general counsel for Bayer.

Partridge assumed the role Oct. 1, Bayer said Tuesday in announcing the appointment. He succeeds Jan Heinemann and reports to Bayer U.S. President Philip Blake.

Partridge joined Monsanto as chief deputy general counsel in 2006 following 27 years in private practice.

Bayer completed its acquisition of Monsanto on June 7. At that time, Partridge served as a member of the leadership team at Monsanto. According to Bayer, he helped expedite the closing of the deal.

Bayer U.S. is located in Whippany.
