The recognition, announced Thursday, is given for distinguished leadership and dedication to psychiatric and mental health nursing.
Evans’ nursing career spans more than four decades. A current member of APNA NJ, his involvement with the organization stretches more than 10 years.
Dr. Lucille Joel, for whom the APNA NJ Award is named, is a professor at Rutgers University School of Nursing and a past president of the NJSNA, the American Nurses Association and the International Council for Nurses. She also serves as a board member at Newbridge Medical Center.
“She was so insightful and forward-thinking for the time,” Evans said. “I never thought I would be working with Dr. Joel and have the honor of calling her a colleague. This is a high honor. It is one of the highlights of my career.”
Evans is a nursing advisory board member, assistant professor and advanced practice nurse track coordinator for Felician University’s graduate nursing program, in addition to maintaining his own practice.
