Hunterdon county has lowest credit card debt, survey says

If you call Hunterdon County home, financial technology company SmartAsset says you are among those with the least credit card debt per capita in New Jersey.

A SmartAsset study used a weighted average evaluating the ratio of credit card debt to per capita income, and the ratio of credit card debt to net wealth capita per county to create an index ranking the top 10 counties with the least amount of debt in New Jersey.

According to the company, the findings provide insight as to whether residents are likely, or able, to pay off accrued credit card debt, while also offering a broader assessment of a county’s financial stability.

The following are the top 10 counties with the least credit card debt:

1. Hunterdon County
Credit card debt: $5,002
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 9.4%
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth: 3.1%

2. Somerset County
Credit card debt: $4,551
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 9.1%
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth: 4.0%

3. Morris County
Credit card debt: $4,685
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 9.2%
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth: 4.1%

4. Monmouth County
Credit card debt: $4,676
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 10.5%
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth:  5.5%

5. Mercer County
Credit card debt: $3,636
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 9.4%
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth: 7.8%

6. Cape May County
Credit card debt: $3,662
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 10.6%
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth: 6.1%

7. Salem County
Credit card debt: $3,091
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 10.2 %
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth:  7.0 %

8. Sussex County
Credit card debt: $4,624
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 11.7 %
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth: 4.7 %

9. Gloucester County
Credit card debt: $3,790
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 10.9 %
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth: 6.0 %

10. Burlington County
Credit card debt: $4,237
Credit card debt as percentage of income: 11.1 %
Credit card debt as percentage of wealth: 5.6 %

I must be one of those counted in Hunterdon County because I have no credit card debt and wouldn't have it any other way :)
