Englewood Health debuts lung cancer treatment

By ,

Englewood Health has announced its Lefcourt Family Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center as the first in New Jersey to offer a new form of radiation therapy for the treatment of lung cancer.

Cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in April 2018, Varian Clypso Anchored Beacon transponders continuously track the precise location of a tumor during treatment, allowing for a more accurate delivery of radiation.

“Calypso is like a real-time GPS of the target, which is exceptionally powerful for lung treatments,” Englewood Health Chief Physicist Michael Speiser said in a release.

In a release, Englewood Health said the therapy was successfully performed on an 83-year-old patient and New Jersey resident with stage I lung cancer.
