Bergen-based baking supply wholesaler A. Oliveri & Sons Inc. plans to leverage a partnership with a Texas brewery supply company to expand its reach throughout the tristate area.

Together, A. Oliveri & Sons and Brewery Direct, headquartered in San Antonio, will supply malted grain, hops, yeast, and specialty ingredients to breweries in New Jersey, New York, eastern Pennsylvania and southern Connecticut.

For A. Oliveri & Sons President Nicholas DePalma, expanding the company’s customer base from bakeries to breweries was a no-brainer. Many ingredients used by bakeries are used by small to midsize breweries for use in specialty offerings, such as fruit purees and sugars.

“We still have old-school customers where we actually deliver 50-pound bags of flour to basements in Brooklyn,” DePalma said. “Breweries will find our level of service refreshing.”

The 114-year-old company was the perfect fit for a partnership with Brewery Direct, which sought regional partners that offered customized service with a focus on customer experience. Brewery Direct was founded in 2016 as a division of Johnson Brothers Bakery Supply, which had been founded 22 years before.
