The New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program has been awarded $250,000 from the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership to support manufacturers.

NJMEP is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides specialized training to New Jersey’s manufacturers. NJMEP enables organizations to enhance their productivity, reduce costs and improve employee performance.

The money will support NJMEP’s technical sales training and apprenticeship program and the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council. NJMEP has requested the state match these funds through an open budget resolution.

“This award is further indication of New Jersey’s increased prominence in America’s manufacturing sector, and we look forward to continuing to help manufacturers innovate and grow,” said John Kennedy, CEO of NJMEP, in a statement. “These programs have been developed to provide entry-level opportunities to companies in need of these skills.”

NJMEP is ranked one of the top-performing manufacturing extension programs in the nation based on independent client surveys. It says it has realized $3.8 billion in value between 2000 and the second quarter of this year. These savings include 33,632 jobs being created and retained.
