The Visiting Nurse Association’s Health Group Prevention Resource Network will open a center within its VNACJ Community Health Center in Asbury Park to serve the LGBTQ community.

The center, set to begin operations July 31, is being partially funded with a grant from the New Jersey Department of Health’s Division of HIV, STD and TB Services. It will be open two evenings per week and Saturday afternoons and will offer testing for sexually transmitted diseases and rapid HIV and syphilis testing, and HIV care.

Services eventually are set to include primary care, behavioral health and transgender services. The Community Health Center will continue to offer dental care, chiropractic, nutrition counseling and podiatric care to the general public, including members of the LGBTQ community.

“Our primary goal at the Community Health Center is to improve the overall health status of individuals in the communities we serve,” said Thomas Thees, interim executive director of the Community Health Center. “With the opening of our new LGBTQ+ Center, our qualified, culturally sensitive and competent staff can better address the specific health needs for these individuals.”
