Innovation Institute urges manufacturing curriculum for cutting-edge processes

A higher education and workforce development team from the American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute recommends colleges modify curricula to reflect the knowledge and skills necessary for jobs encompassing new light-weighting technologies, materials and processes. 

The team of college and university faculty experts in materials science, engineering disciplines, and education and workforce preparation recently issued a report recommending steps to address skills required by technology advancements in industrial workplaces.

They urged the creation of classes in emerging light-weighting technology areas including refill friction stir spot welding, joining titanium to steel, inorganically bonded sand molds and friction stir extrusion.
