Voorhees based-New Jersey American Water on Thursday announced an agreement to acquire Roxbury Water Co., which has 3,900 residential and commercial customers in Roxbury Township.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

“We are looking forward to welcoming residents served by Roxbury Water to our family of customers,” New Jersey American Water President Deb Degillio said. “Our staff is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and providing the same great level of quality and service that we provide to our customers throughout the state.”

Founded in 1954, Roxbury is family-owned. Publicly traded American Water (NYSE: AWK) said it will complete the acquisition as soon as it’s cleared by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

“I am pleased to be transitioning our family business to New Jersey American Water,” Roxbury President John Hosking said. “My family is very proud of the quality and service we have provided to our customers for more than 60 years, and it gives me peace of mind to know we are leaving our life’s work in their expert and caring hands.”
