Princeton law firm Locke Lord named Paulette Brown senior partner and chief diversity and inclusion officer Thursday.

Brown is past president of the American Bar Association and was the first woman of color to hold that position.

Previously, she was partner at the firm. As co-chair of its diversity and inclusion committee, which she joined in 2015, she has been leading in-person diversity and inclusion training across the firm’s 20 offices throughout the world.

Under her guidance, the firm received a 100 percent rating in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2018 Corporate Equality Index for the second consecutive year.

“Paulette’s commitment to, and groundbreaking work on behalf of, diversity and inclusion has made an important and critical difference to our Firm and throughout the country,” said Locke Lord Chair David Taylor in a statement. “Diversity and inclusion are cornerstone values at Locke Lord, and we are continuously working to ensure our policies, benefits, programs and teams are conducive to providing our lawyers and staff a healthy, successful workplace in order to deliver to our clients the highest-quality professional and personal service. We know Paulette will be integral to the Firm’s continued dedication to these efforts.”

When Brown became ABA president in 2014, she formed the ABA’s Diversity and Inclusion 360 Commission which examine diversity and inclusion within the legal and judicial systems to then develop ways to best advance diversity in those fields. She also helped create and implement ABA Resolution 113, which resolves to encourage diversity within firms and encourage clients to hire diverse attorneys.
