Senate budget committee approves AirBnB tax

By ,

The state Senate Budget Committee on Tuesday approved Gov. Phil Murphy’s sought-after tax on AirBnB accommodations.

The committee approved Senate Bill 749, which would subject AirBnB accommodations and transactions to the same fees and taxes imposed on hotels and motels. Murphy has said since March he wants to tax app-based services such as Uber, Lyft and AirBnB, arguing it would bring in millions of dollars to the state budget.
