A Rutgers-Eagleton Poll, in collaboration with the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey, found that New Jerseyans want the Affordable Housing Trust Fund to be used solely for building affordable homes.

The poll told people that this funding has been used to pay for other programs in the state budget in recent years instead of for its original intention. Seventy-nine percent of respondents said the funding should be used solely for the latter, 16 percent said the state government should be able to use these funds for other purposes, and 5 percent were unsure.

Familiar story in New Jersey; raise funds for one need -- use money for something else, leaving the original need in limbo. Pensions, roads, schools, name a typical duty of government and our legislature will find a way to turn it into a crisis-- in need of more funding.
