Up to 10 Lord & Taylor stores to close, including Fifth Avenue location

By ,

Hudson’s Bay Co. said Tuesday it plans to close up to 10 of its Lord & Taylor department stores, including its flagship location on New York’s Fifth Avenue.

The company did not immediately provide a list of the stores that will be shuttered but did say the closings would occur through 2019. As of May 5, the company had 48 Lord & Taylor locations in the U.S.

There are 13 Lord & Taylor stores in New Jersey, including three in Paramus and one each in Freehold, Lawrenceville, Eatontown, Moorestown, Woodbridge, Bridgewater, Westfield, Livingston, Wayne and Rockaway.

In a statement, the company said it intends to “better balance the brand’s brick-and-mortar presence with its online channels and increase profitability.”

Hudson’s Bay also said it plans to sell its e-commerce site Gilt.
