Rutgers forms research partnership with California biopharma

By ,

Rutgers University and San Diego-based Cidara Therapeutics have received a $5.5 million grant from the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health to research and develop solutions to bacterial infections.

The grant will fund Cidara and Rutgers’ work on Cidara’s Cloudbreak immunotherapy platform for treatment of antibiotic-resistant gram-negative bacterial infections and other infections and infectious diseases.

“This exciting program provides a next generation approach to overcome and prevent life-threatening infections by uniquely harnessing the power of the immune system,” said David Perlin, executive director and professor at the Public Health Research Institute Center at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.

Perlin will lead the research phase of the grant and serve as principal investigator.
