Jersey City extends Newark Avenue pedestrian plaza

By ,

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop has signed an executive order extending the Newark Avenue pedestrian plaza to Jersey Avenue.

The order calls for the closure of Newark Avenue between Barrow Street and Jersey Avenue for a period of 60 days, during which the city will monitor the expansion and solicit feedback from residents and business owners. The trial period begins May 21 and will end July 19.

Jersey City expects to make the extension permanent in the fall as part of a $1 million project. Plans include raising the street, building a playground on the Plaza and enhancing the infrastructure.
