Goethals Bridge westbound lanes to open May 21

By ,

The westbound span of the new Goethals Bridge will open to traffic May 21.

The new $1.5 billion twin span, cable-stayed bridge crosses over the Arthur Kill between Staten Island and Elizabeth, N.J.

The project represents the first new bridge built by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey since 1931. The eastbound span opened in June 2017 and has been used to accommodate two lanes of traffic in each direction while the westbound span was under construction.
