The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory has named Steven Cowley, a theoretical physicist at Oxford University and president of Corpus Christi College, as its director, effective July 1.

Cowley will manage all aspects of the laboratory, including its performance in science, engineering, operations, project management and strategic planning. He will lead the lab’s scientific and technical programs in fusion energy science and technology, as well as broader investigations in plasma science.

The lab is devoted to creating new knowledge about the physics of plasmas and to developing practical solutions for the creation of fusion energy.
