The rush for health care systems to become “one-stop” medical centers in the state just took on a new competitor, Sanitas Medical Centers.
Sanitas operates 10 multi-specialty medical centers geared to the Hispanic community in Florida. It uses a single-payer model, as the centers accept only Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida insurance.
In partnering with Sanitas, Horizon BCBSNJ recognized a dearth of primary care doctors serving New Jersey’s Hispanic community. Santitas – which will accept only insurance from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey customers – will be geared to serving the 1.7 million Spanish-speaking residents in the state.
So far, a center in Union City provides primary care, and Sanitas plans to open centers in Belleville and Jersey City in the fall.
