Princeton University was the top-ranked New Jersey institution, at No. 8, on a Forbes list of Best Value Colleges, in which the magazine ranked 300 universities after considering cost, alumni earnings, timely graduation and other factors.

Graduates of the Ivy League college, which admits only 7 percent of applicants, earn an average of $147,800 mid-career.

Rutgers University, which admits 58 percent of applicants, came in at No. 80 on the 300-school list, and New Jersey Institute of Technology, which admits 61 percent of applicants, ranked No. 96.

The College of New Jersey ranked No. 186 and Montclair State University was No. 239.
