Murphy recommends Zaro as Gateway Development trustee

By ,

Gov. Phil Murphy has recommended that the board of the New Jersey Transit Corp. appoint state-government vet Jerry Zaro to serve on the board of trustees of the Gateway Program Development Corp.

Zaro would fill the seat of Richard Bagger, who recently resigned.

The GPDC is a New Jersey non-profit organization formed in 2016 to oversee the Gateway Program, a massive construction project to add a New Jersey-New York rail tunnel under the Hudson River and to replace a portion of the Portal Bridge in North Jersey.

Zaro has served the last seven consecutive governors of New Jersey in a variety of leadership posts. He has chaired New Jersey Highway Authority and served as commissioner of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, and as chief of the Office of Economic Growth for the State of New Jersey, a cabinet-level position.
