Another cannabis law group launched this week, this time by Lee Vartan and Francis Giantomasi at Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi. The new group will provide counsel and regulatory guidance to operators and investors in the medical and recreational cannabis sectors.

Last week’s latest proposed marijuana legislation, bill 3581 sponsored by Assemblyman Reed Gusciora, D – Mercer, would allow for up to 400 dispensaries, 80 transporters and 25 producer-processors within two years of passage.

“The sector will undoubtedly be subject to a complex matrix of regulation. Licensees will have to contend with exhaustive background checks, develop compliance plans that will pass muster with regulators, lawfully navigate banking and funding, and avoid scrutiny at the federal level. Retaining appropriate counsel, legal and otherwise, will be vital to new entrants’ viability in this market,” said Vartan in a statement.

The cannabis arm of the West Orange-based firm has 11 members drawing from practice areas such as tax, private equity, health care, labor and employment, and intellectual property.
