Hackensack Meridian Health and the Carrier Clinic, a New Jersey-based network of behavioral health and addiction treatment clinics, have signed a letter of intent to explore a partnership to provide increased mental health services in the state.

The aim would be to provide 24-hour access to treatment for mental health and substance abuse problems for both adolescents and adults in the region. The partnership would involve a multi-disciplinary team of experts, including psychiatrists, primary care physicians and nurses from both Hackensack Meridian and the Carrier Clinic.

“The opioid crisis is unprecedented in its scope and intensity and this partnership would enhance our efforts to be part of the solution,’’ said John Lloyd, co-CEO of Hackensack Meridian, in a statement.

“This plan will create exceptional, comprehensive care at a time of great need for expanded, enhanced, and innovative behavioral health services,’’ said Donald Parker, CEO of the Carrier Clinic
