After Hurricane Sandy tore up the shore in 2012, first responders and military personnel stepped up to the plate to help those struggling within the community as a result of the storm.

To honor these local heroes, Cliff Baker and Mike Jurusz founded A Need We Feed, a non-profit organization dedicated to feeding them.

“Our mission is to prepare and deliver hot meals and more during Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and a Summer BBQ to give a little hope to our local veterans and those in need,” Baker said in a statement. “A little hope that there is a reason to believe. We come back four times a year so they know they are not forgotten.”

On Sept. 16, A Need We Feed will host its first annual End of Summer Beach Party at Chef Mike’s ABG in South Seaside Park, N.J. For the price of the ticket, guests try food prepared by well-known Shore-based chefs and have complimentary beer and wine. All proceeds go toward the organization’s feeding events.

“There was a really bad point right after Sandy when no one could get anywhere. Chef Mike and Cliff actually started the organization by cooking the first-responders hot meals,” said Mary Masi, A Need We Feed board member. “After the county recuperated, they started doing it for others in need. Last Thanksgiving, they delivered over 800 meals.”

Tickets cost $50 for adults, $20 for children under 12, and can also be purchased the day of the event for $65
