RWJBarnabas Health is planning to build on its expansion into ambulatory and outpatient care this year, as it plans to open an additional seven outpatient offices to provide both primary and specialty care.

Thomas Biga, president of the RWJBarnabas’ Hospital Division, said in an interview that the health system will be opening physician hubs in Edison, Bridgewater, Jersey City, Greenville, Ocean Township, Forked River and a second office in Eatontown. RWJBarnabas – like many of the large hospitals over the past year – is seeking to provide its patients with one-stop shopping for their medical needs by offering primary care in outpatient environments.

“These offices allow our patients access to their physicians in a more central location with specialists and other services, such as labs, pharmacy, imaging and surgery, readily available in those locations,” Biga said.

In the past two years, the system has added primary and specialty care offices in Hamilton, Florham Park, Shrewsbury and Eatontown, as well as adding primary care and specialist doctors to its 200,000-square foot flagship ambulatory care center in Livingston. In 2016, RWJ also added a 48,000-square foot addition to that space to accommodate the growth.
