Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli said Friday he anticipates a request for proposal for conceptual design of a replacement of the transportation center to be advertised in May.
“We believe the forthcoming overhaul of this busy transit center is a linchpin for unlocking significant potential for economic development, market rate housing and enhanced infrastructure and movement in downtown Camden," Cappelli said.
Camden County recently joined with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission to conduct a study to assess the opportunities to redesign the transportation center.
The purpose of the project is to improve customer convenience, safety, and amenities, and accommodate more bus passengers, according to lead consultant and engineering/design company AECOM.
Public meetings about the project were held in Camden last year.
