Frutta Bowls opens in Metuchen

By ,

Frutta Bowls, a Freehold-based operator of smoothie bowl restaurants, is opening a location in Metuchen, its 12th site overall.

Frutta Bowls was started in 2016 by Brooke Gagliano, then 23.

The Metuchen location, set for a grand opening Saturday, is owned by Shaun Farrelly of Somerset. Farrelly also owns the popular Golden Rail Pub in New Brunswick.

“[My family] has an interest in the health food industry, and we saw the business opportunity here,” Farrelly said. “I tried the product, and when we saw how successful and popular the stores were, we wanted to follow up with it. It’s a fast-developing industry.”

A soft opening was marked Thursday with little advertisement. Farrelly told NJBIZ that it was a busy day.

“We just posted a small comment on Instagram about the small opening, actually. They were waiting for us here in Metuchen,” Farrelly said.

Spring hours will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Summer hours will likely extend to 10 p.m.

According to the Frutta Bowls blog, there are 70 more locations in the works.
