Saint Peter's expands uses of surgical-recovery app

By ,

Saint Peter’s Healthcare System is expanding its Seamless MD application to patients undergoing caesarean sections and total joint replacements.

The application, which can be used via smartphone, tablet and computers, includes reminders, tasks, daily milestone trackers and medical education to assist patients in recovering from c-sections and joint replacements. Doctors are also able to monitor patients remotely using a real-time dashboard, allowing patients to stay connected with care givers.

During the past year, Saint Peter’s estimates that SeamlessMD has reduced hospital stays by 1.5 days, producing cost savings for the health system.

“With SeamlessMD, our length of stay is dropping – even exceeding our optimistic predictions because our patients now feel safe despite going home earlier, as they have the knowledge that we’re able to monitor their recovery remotely and intervene should there be a problem,” said Dr. Attila Kett, chair of Anesthesia at Saint Peter’s, in a prepared statement.

The application was first tested for c-section patients in 2016.
