Rutgers engineers boost film-product manufacturing

Engineers at Rutgers University–New Brunswick and Oregon State University are developing a new method of processing nanomaterials that could lead to faster and cheaper manufacturing of flexible, thin film products such as touch screens and window coatings.

The engineers are using an intense pulsed-light sintering method involving high-energy light over an area almost 7,000 times larger than a conventional laser to fuse nanomaterials in seconds. Additionally, the engineers are employing a method of pulsed-light fusion allowing the use of significantly lower temperatures in the manufacturing process, the university said.
