New Bridge Medical names new medical chief

By ,

Paramus-based New Bridge Medical Center, the largest publicly owned hospital and nursing center in the state, has named Dr. Gian Varbaro as its new chief medical officer.

Varbaro joins New Bridge from Jackson North Medical Center, a 382-bed acute care facility in North Miami Beach, Fla. He replaces Dr. Serge Durmay, who was named as the hospital’s chief quality officer.

Varbaro is a graduate of New York University Medical School, and completed his residency in internal medicine at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick.

“Together, we will work to create new service and business lines, and his expertise will be instrumental in the expansion of our acute care services,” said Deborah Visconi, CEO at New Bridge Medical Center. “Dr. Varbaro will lead efforts that will result in a continual enhancement in quality and positive patient outcomes. He will play a dynamic and pivotal role in community and medical staff engagement.”

New Bridge Medical Center, a clinical affiliate of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, is a 1,070 bed hospital that was founded in 1916. It is a fourth-largest publicly owned hospital in the nation.
