The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce has named Sandra Strothers, a 16-year veteran of the New Jersey Department of Education, as the new executive director for the Jobs for New Jersey Graduates program.
New Jersey’s chapter is part of a national initiative called Jobs for America’s Graduates, a program offering support for high school students who are considered at-risk for dropping out of school.
Strothers previously served as the state director for Jobs for New Jersey Graduates when the program was run by the state’s Department of Education.
Participating students are offered academic support, access to guest speakers, tours of local businesses and mentoring for pursuing college or a career. The program is offered at 10 schools in Newark, Camden, East Orange, Carteret, New Brunswick and Vineland.
As executive director, Strothers will ensure organizations report outcomes and make sure programs match Jobs for America’s Graduates national guidelines.
“We are fortunate to bring in an executive director of Dr. Strothers’ caliber,” president of New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Foundation Donna Custard said. “She brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective that will benefit the program and the students.”
