Bressler, Amery & Ross forms specialized group for baby boomer financial issues

By ,

In response to the number of Americans turning 65 each day—a whopping 10,000, according to Pew Research Center—Florham Park-based Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C. has developed a team to specialize in dealing with the financial and legal issues baby boomers are likely to face.

The Senior Issues: Counseling and Litigation Defense is a multi-office, interdisciplinary team of 21 attorneys located in New Jersey, New York, Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Birmingham, Alabama.

"We want to help our financial services clients navigate the transition of their baby boomer clients to aging seniors, and in the process allow them to avoid problems of financial exploitation," said Bressler’s Managing Principal Brian Amery in a statement.

The new group “is a natural outgrowth of the firm's work in the financial services and wealth management areas,” Amery, who works out of Bressler's Florham Park office, said in a statement.

The attorneys within the Senior Issues group design programs to help clients prevent and detect the exploitation of seniors and avoid regulatory and litigation issues.

According to the firm’s website, some of the services provided by the new group are drafting written supervisory and compliance procedures; preparing and conducting training programs; advising on regulatory filings; and defending investor claims in arbitration court.

The group also provides guidance on estate planning issues such as identifying estate and tax strategies for seniors of varying wealth levels and dealing with a client’s current or potential incapacity.

"For years, the financial industry has grappled with how to best protect seniors and vulnerable adults from exploitation," Richard C. Szuch, who is helping spearhead the new group, said in a statement. "The aim of the group is to help our corporate clients deal with these issues."
