NJM Insurance Group, the West Trenton-based property casualty insurer, has named its first chief operating officer, it announced Thursday.
The company said in a news release that Mitchell A. Livingston will serve as both COO and general counsel. In the latter role, he replaces the retiring general counsel, Robert H. Zetterstrom.
“NJM was fortunate to have Bob Zetterstrom as a leader in our organization for more than 20 years,” CEO and President Bernie Flynn said in a prepared statement. “He leaves behind an outstanding legacy of professionalism, service and dedication to our customers.”
Livingston had been the company’s executive vice president and corporate counsel. In his new role, he will be responsible for NJM’s day-to-day operations, as well as overseeing the law and regulation department.
“The promotion of Mitch Livingston to chief operating officer recognizes his leadership and commitment to our mission of providing value-based insurance solutions for the benefit of our policyholders,” Flynn said. “His industry knowledge, focus on serving customers and strong belief in the mutual concept — which has guided our company for more than 100 years — make him the clear choice to lead our day-to-day operations.”
Livingston, who joined NJM in 2006, is a member of the executive leadership team and board of directors.
The company also made some changes among its board officers, it said.
Brian F. Neuwirth, president of Lakewood-based Unex Manufacturing, was elected chairman; Edward J. Graham, former CEO of South Jersey Industries, was elected vice chairman; and Tom Welch, former CEO and president of Grange Mutual Casualty Co. of Columbus, Ohio, was elected to the board.
The former chairman, Matthew L. Wright, president of Piper Holdings, will remain on the board.
