Despite a published report last month claiming construction at the American Dream project has stalled, leasing operations appear to have continued.

KidZania USA recently announced it has leased 80,000 square feet for an experiential learning space at the Meadowlands mall.

“We are thrilled to provide a new learning experience to families and educators throughout the New York metro area,” said Keith Rubenstein, acting CEO of KidZania USA. “KidZania at American Dream will be a fascinating space for children to develop leadership, teamwork and financial literacy skills that will last a lifetime.”

Rubenstein said he and his team obtained the KidZania franchise in early 2016, and determined American Dream was the ideal location shortly after.

“We’ve been studying what we believe our target markets are, because we plan to open 15 to 20 (spaces) across North America,” He said. “When we studied the markets, we felt that American Dream was one of the markets that we wanted to pursue.”

KidZania was started by Mexican entrepreneur Xavier Lopez in 1999.

Rubenstein said the company hopes to occupy the space sometime in 2019. Debbie Patire, senior vice president of marketing at American Dream, said the mall opening is slated for fall 2018.
