Wawa adding 2,500 workers in N.J. during spring hiring blitz

Wawa’s spring hiring campaign could result in about 2,500 new hires in New Jersey, the convenience store chain told NJBIZ on Friday.

The company, based in Wawa, Pennsylvania, said in a news release that, over the next three months, it expects to hire a total of 5,000 workers for its 750 stores in six states. Of those, the company told NJBIZ, it expects about 50 percent to come from New Jersey, with a particular focus on bolstering stores in the Jersey Shore region.

Wawa has 244 stores in New Jersey overall.

The company said its hiring campaign is aimed at filling customer service as well as management-level positions, and is part of a commitment to provide jobs that can lead to careers with the company.

“As we continue to expand and grow, we’re excited to fill these 5,000-plus positions with people who will quickly become part of the Wawa Way,” Dave Filano, manager of talent acquisition, said in a prepared statement. “We’re specifically looking for individuals who enjoy serving others who want to join our team for the busy summer season, and, as well, those who might be interested in the start of a fulfilling career at Wawa.”

The company said interested parties should apply online, and potentially attend an open house hiring event such as the “Wawa Career Wednesdays” held at select stores from March 29 through April 19.

Wawa employs more than 30,000 associates overall, it said.
