Wakefern promotes exec to EVP

By ,

Wakefern Food Corp. has promoted a senior vice president to its executive vice president role, it announced earlier this week.

Chris Lane, who had been senior vice president of product divisions, will now guide day-to-day operations and strategic planning for the retailer-owned supermarket cooperative based in Keasbey.

“Our goal was to select an individual who would honor our past and, at the same time, challenge the status quo to ensure a bright future for Wakefern and our members,” President and Chief Operating Officer Joe Sheridan said in a prepared statement. “We’re happy to announce that Chris Lane has been appointed to the position. Chris is innovative, forward-thinking and willing to take the calculated risks required to navigate a challenging competitive environment where emerging technologies and changing consumer preferences require us to be nimble and able to respond with urgency.”

Lane has been with the company for 13 years. He joined Wakefern in 2003 as vice president of pharmacy and earned several promotions and increased responsibilities over time.

Wakefern operates supermarkets under the ShopRite, Fresh Grocer, PriceRite and Dearborn Market brands.
