10 from N.J. named National Blue Ribbon Schools

Ten New Jersey schools earned the coveted honor of National Blue Ribbon Schools, a designation given annually by the U.S. Department of Education.

The honor is given to schools for both overall academic achievement or marked improvement to close the achievement gap among all of the students.

Only 329 schools nationally received the designation.

Of those honored in New Jersey, six were public schools and four were private.

The list:

Public schools

Cedar Hill Elementary (Montville)

Central Jersey College Prep Charter School (Somerset)

Cranbury Elementary (Cranbury)

Essex Fells Elementary (Essex Fells)

Lyncrest Elementary School (Fair Lawn)

Union County Academy for Performing Arts (Scotch Plains)

Private schools

Academy of the Most Blessed Sacrament (Franklin Lakes)

Saint Peter School (Point Pleasant Beach)

St. Augustine of Canterbury School (Kendall Park)

St. Cassian Elementary (Montclair)
