Clara Maass Medical Center recently announced its newest wellness program for seniors in Nutley through a partnership with the township.
A grant from The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey created the WAVE Program, which brings annual wellness visits to seniors by providing them the access needed to receive the Medicare-covered benefit.
“This project will do more than keep us present in local neighborhoods — it gives Medicare-eligible adults, who are ages 65 and older, an opportunity to have annual wellness visits with no copay, deductible or coinsurance fee,” said Mary Ellen Clyne, CEO and president at Clara Maass.
Each visit includes time for seniors to talk about their overall physical health, review their vital signs, health habits and risk factors, as well as receive screenings for memory, heart and nerve functions, balance, bone density, circulation and mental health, according to a statement from the Belleville hospital.
Referrals or pre-approval are not required, but a Medicare card is.
Marsha Atkind, executive director and CEO at The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, said, “We are proud to have supported Clara Maass Medical Center in its work to help seniors access the care and support they need to lead the healthiest, most independent lives they can.”
