Law firm's closure could result in nearly 300 job losses

By ,

A Mountainside bankruptcy law firm is closing its doors, potentially costing nearly 300 employees their jobs, according to a notice filed with the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

Zucker, Goldberg & Ackerman LLC, which specializes in creditor protection against foreclosure, bankruptcy, eviction and other related problems, issued the WARN notice this week. The firm indicated it is closing, citing “current and anticipated profitability insufficient to sustain current operations.”

The notice, effective Aug. 24, indicates that 289 workers could be affected, but did not indicate what type of employees face layoffs.

Zucker, Goldberg & Ackerman did not immediately return an email seeking comment.

WARN notices normally cover mass layoffs or facility closings as part of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1989.
