The New Jersey State League of Municipalities has named Assistant Director Michael Darcy as the organization's next executive director, according to a Star-Ledger report.

Darcy will replace longtime head Bill Dressel, who is set to retire next month after 41 years with the organization. Dressel announced his retirement plans in December.

In a letter obtained by The Star-Ledger to mayors announcing the move, Brian Wahler, the organization president and Piscataway mayor, said the League’s executive board has “great confidence” in Darcy’s ability to lead as executive director.

"His long tenure and depth of knowledge about the league and local government point to the league's strength and mean our organizational focus will not waiver from the needs of New Jersey local officials,” Wahler reportedly wrote.
