Achievements: Leveraging her ability to collaborate and establish connections to position the New Jersey Institute of Technology as a go-to institution for the state’s life sciences and technology communities; leading NJIT’s entrepreneurial activities; filling leadership roles in Soroptomist International of the Greater Westfield Area and other nonprofits; taking part in economic development initiatives in Newark, as well as programs that encourage women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, University of Illinois; master’s degree in mathematics, University of Illinois; MBA, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Role models: “When I worked at AT&T/Lucent, I had the opportunity to report to Curtis Crawford, group president of the microelectronics group-Lucent Technologies. He taught me how critical it is to give your employees the opportunity to grow and develop leadership skills by providing them with stretch goals and assignments. He also demonstrated the importance of customers to the business.”
What change would make workplaces friendlier to work-life balance? “Today, employees are looking for work-life integration, not simply work-life balance. It is critical that the workplace culture is positive and collaborative, allowing employees to feel valued, trusted and respected.”
