Achievements: Becoming only the second woman and the second non-lawyer to become head of the New Jersey State Bar Association; recruiting and promoting women to serve in the bar association; overseeing a $5 million capital campaign as executive director of the association’s foundation; serving as a founding member of the New Providence Education Foundation; helping to create local sports programs for children and teens with special needs.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass media and communications, Douglass College, Rutgers University.

What change would make workplaces friendlier to work-life balance? “It is critical to provide a work environment that is flexible enough to allow working parents to attend to issues relating to their families. That can mean flexible hours, work-at-home arrangements or similar accommodations. If you have a quality employee, it is critical to provide an environment that allows him or her to balance work and life. My experience is that with flexibility, a good employee will give back 150 percent.”

What do you wish someone had told you when you were first starting out in business? “Perhaps how to work a room at a cocktail party.”
