Carol Katz Katz Government Affairs, LLC, Principal
Achievements: Creating her own lobbying firm in 2003 to serve clients with issues before the legislative and executive branches in New Jersey; serving on the boards of the Lawrence Township Education Foundation and Greater Trenton Behavioral Healthcare; sponsoring the Passion-Power-Progress event held by the Women’s Political Caucus of New Jersey, which recognizes leaders who have made New Jersey a better place for women.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in history, Amherst College; MBA, Harvard Business School.
Role models: “My parents. My father, Joe Katz, was one of the first and finest New Jersey lobbyists. He has set the bar very high for those of us who travel in his path. My late mother, Eileen Katz, never followed the crowd, but always welcomed it in for a chat.”
What change would make workplaces friendlier to work-life balance? “Making it socially unacceptable to send work email after 7 p.m., or on weekends. But I’m one of the worst offenders.”
What do you wish someone had told you when you were first starting out in business? “Don’t be shy about asking for help, even from people you might think of as competition.”
