Casabona named 2014 Immigrant Entrepreneur of the year

By ,

Mario Casabona, an angel investor best known as the founder of TechLaunch, was awarded the top prize at Fairleigh Dickinson University's second annual Immigrant Entrepreneur of the Year ceremony on Tuesday.

"This award marks a personal as well as professional milestone, and one that I only wish my Sicilian parents were alive to witness,” Casabona said in a statement. “As proud as I've been of other achievements in my life, this recognition really speaks to the grateful immigrant in me who was not only welcomed to this great country but presented with all the resources and opportunities that — together with lots of hard work — enabled me to become whoever and whatever I desired."

Casabona immigrated from Italy at the age of five with his parents and has spent his entire professional career conducting business in New Jersey.

The event was organized as a coalition of both county and binational chambers of commerce as well as business and advocacy groups in an attempted to highlight the contribution of New Jersey’s immigrant population plays in the state and national economy.
